Joanne is a registered Oral Health Therapist who grew up in Malaysia and moved to Christchurch at age 17. She graduated from University of Otago with a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences and a Bachelor of Oral Health in 2014.

Prior to joining the team at Christchurch PerioHygiene, she worked for Canterbury DHB and a private practice in Ashburton for 7 years, providing periodontal care for patients from all walks of life and restorative care for children under 18 years old. Her passion for oral health education led her to organise numerous oral health programmes in the community. She is currently undertaking a Master of Health Sciences aimed at improving the utilisation rates of adolescent oral health services across Canterbury.

As someone who experienced dental anxiety as a child, Joanne strives to be as kind and patient as possible while providing evidence-based, high quality care. She enjoys build long-lasting relationships with her patients and serving their dental needs with gentle hands. Her goal is to ensure that each patient leaves with an exceptionally comfortable experience and feel empowered in maintaining their oral health. Her qualifications also allow her to provide whitening treatment, construct mouthguards, provide dental hygiene treatment under intravenous sedation, and provide dental care for children aged 18 and under.

Outside of work, Joanne is often learning new things to better herself as an Oral Health Therapist. She enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as travelling and meeting new people. She also has a penchant for painting, reading, video games and going to the gym.
