Karen McCombe

Karen began her career in dentistry in 1986 as a dental assistant in Christchurch before joining the New Zealand Army Dental Corps in 1990. She completed her dental hygiene training through the NZADC in 1994 and went on to spend several years providing periodontal and oral surgery care in both clinical and field settings.

Her experience across military and civilian practice has shaped a highly practical, disciplined approach to care. After transitioning out of the Army, Karen took on a practice management role, where she also introduced hygiene services into the clinic, before returning to clinical work in Christchurch.

Over the years, she has developed particular expertise in periodontal maintenance and implant post-operative care, holding a senior role within a specialist periodontal practice.

Karen’s approach with patients is steady and reassuring. She focuses on making each visit feel manageable, taking the time to work gently, explain clearly, and build consistency in care over time. For her, good outcomes come from trust, routine, and helping patients feel at ease throughout their treatment.

Outside the clinic, she enjoys running, walking, golfing, travelling, and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.
